Drunken Sailors

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2008
I made this today for dinner. The title says it all! Drunken, indeed. Bf said the sauce reminds him of the Jack Daniel sauce at TGIF that he likes, but the alcohol in this was a bit too strong. We used Wild Turkey whiskey because that's what we had, so we may try to use Jack Daniels next time or use less. It makes a lot of sauce in comparison to the Kielbasa, so I may use more Kielbasa next time. I tried it plain and on a bun; it was good both ways, we will just modify the alcohol a bit next time. Thanks!

Good Old Fashioned Pancakes

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2008
These are really good! My girls all love them. Much better than the box I was using! They freeze well too. I lay them out on a cookie sheet in single layers then when they are frozen throw them into a baggie. Great for a quick morning b-fast. I do add 1 T of vanilla extract to the batter. thanks for a great recipe!

Stuffed Pork Chops

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2008
This was probably the best pork chop dish I've ever made. I'm not a big fan of pork, but I make it for my hubby once in a while. I absolutely adored this recipe. While it took a lot of effort to get it done, it was completely worth it. I will be making this again soon. Thanks for the great recipe!

Even better when you use orange or mandarin vodka instead of regular!

Pizzelles II

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2008
I used two bottles plus another teaspoon or so of anise flavoring, but we like them with a lot of flavor. This recipe is just like my dad makes. For Christmas, he puts red and green food coloring in the batter and makes them in those different colors - really pretty. These also freeze well.

Oatmeal Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2008
The family sure liked these. Used shortening and stick of butter, no margarine used. Cooked 12 mins. A bit crunchy, will only cook 10 mins next time. They come out floppy, but harden up nicely. Other than the butter substitution, I made no other changes. They ran a bit which produced a thinner cookie than I like, so next time I will add 1/2 cup more oats.

Spinach Stuffed Chicken Breast

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2008
I did not care for this recipe. It was VERY bland and I even added extra spices to it! The chicken had no flavor, all you could taste was the spinach! DO NOT RECOMEND FOR ANYONE TO TRY THIS RECIPE! will not make again!

Sun Dried Tomato and Asiago Cheese Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2008
I made this earlier this week but forgot to review it. I don't have amaranth flour or wheat bran--I just used wheat flour. It worked just fine. Subbed mozzarella cheese for the asiago cheese and I used sun dried tomatoes packed in oil, so I only put one tablespoon of oil in. I think next time I'll eliminate the oil entirely. I made the dough in my bread machine then shaped into a round loaf and baked in the oven. Very good bread! I will definitely make it again. Thanks!

Creamy Chocolate Frosting

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2008
What a lovely frosting... I used it to frost some cupcakes (Chocolate Oil Cake recipe)... the contrast of depth of chocolate was amazing. This frosting is beautifully buttery with a smooth chocolate flavor- like milk chocolate, where the cupcakes are more dark-- Easy to work with, though a bit soft- that was my fault because I couldn't find any more powdered sugar. Great recipe!

Spaghetti Carbonara II

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2008
For once I followed a recipe without tweaking. I really enjoyed this, and am glad that I made it. My husband would have liked it better "without the onions, the wine, and the eggs". He's hopeless. I'll be making this again, I'll just have to wait for when my husband is in the field.

Spaetzle I

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2008
I enjoyed the finished product after I fried it and dressed it with browned butter and garlic powder. The dough was a little difficult to work with, but the messiness of it all was fun. I served it with Smothered Pork Chops and Green Bean Bundles of Joy from this site. It was a delish German feast.

Easy Slow Cooker French Dip

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2008
The flavor was good but even after cooking for the length of time directed, the roast was extremely tough. I ended up removing it, slicing it thinly & placing the liquid & meat in a pan on the stove. After boiling for an hour, it was finally tender enough. I did use beef consumme instead.
